When should I start to have my dog groomed?
Check your dog’s nails especially if your dog is indoors mostly as they can grow long and turn into the skin, which can cause infection as well as discomfort for your dog. Do not attempt to trim them unless you know how to because unlike human nails, dogs have what is called the quick (vein) which can bleed profusely if trimmed incorrectly. It is also very painful for your dog and he will most likely yelp if you try.
Most small dogs need their eyes cleaned regularly especially if they have very teary eyes. You can trim these if there is a build up of tears.
We recommend within the first three months as grooming can be a very stressful moment for first timers! Eventually your puppy will get used to it, as he will need grooming for the rest of his life. This is especially the case with long coated breeds such as Maltese Terriers, Poodles and Bischons as they need continual grooming for their coats.
How does a matted dog feel?
If your dog is matted, it will feel terribly stressed and in pain. The matts on your dogs skin actually pull the skin as your dog moves which can cause
irritation and even result in skin problems and can be very costly to fix. They can also be a nest for fleas. Fleas love them.
Sedation?
We do not sedate under any situation. If your dog requires sedation then you will need to speak to a vet.
Will my dog be muzzled?
Dogs that show signs of aggression will be muzzled for their safety and mine.
